About
Hi! My name's Alister. This is my website. It started off as an experiment in 1996, and never really stopped.
I have now been living in England for a whole year!

I've been taking a look at the site's stats for last year. After OpenJazz, the most popular search phrase was "Doctor Who clipart". Apparently, a non-insignificant portion of this site's visitors end up looking at some low-quality clipart I threw together when I was 13. Sorry, folks.

Train assigned, 80 minutes late. Standing room only, lots of luggage. Train de-assigned, everybody disembarks. Train re-assigned. Gaah.

Stopped to buy the i this morning, missed train. If it's supposed to be for overly busy people, is charging for it going to work? #ilaunch
In the middle of August I moved to Watford, and have spent most of the intervening time without access to the internet. This has made me realise just how much I depend on it. For example, I would not normally go to a new supermarket without first finding out exactly how to get there, and what time they closed. It has been a liberating experience.

A lot has happened since my last update. I've been a teller at a polling station (in one of the safest constituencies in the country). I've run 8.1 miles (13 km) in 77 minutes. I've added rudimentary support for Jazz Jackrabbit 2 levels to OpenJazz. I've had a mole removed from the end of my nose (which is not the best place to have a scar). And finally, I've found myself some gainful employment. I now work for Imagination Technologies (LSE: IMG) - hence the move to Watford.

Can't wait 'til the 23rd of May! That's when I'll be running an 8-mile section of the Edinburgh Marathon. Three friends and I are hoping to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust. Please give what you can here.

Of course, if you prefer your running to be more virtual, there's another option. You can now run through the bonus levels of OpenJazz, as promised.

Not on electoral register for new digs, despite applying over two months ago. New form arriving soon, apparently. Not impressed.
I've now been living in London for two months. So, what's new?

I've made a film for the EMPS 24-hour film competition, which you can see on the new films page. Not long afterwards I went up to Edinburgh for this year's Golden Video Awards. No prize this year, but I did get to present the award for best soundtrack.

I have yet to find anyone who'll employ me, so OpenJazz has been receiving an unusual amount of attention of late. Expect bonus levels in the not-too-distant future!

Doctor Who got going again on Saturday. As has been established, I have a certain amount of affection for the show. I'm glad to say I do rather like the relaunch, despite (and perhaps, because of) it being a bit more of a kid's show now.

As for today, I've applied for a provisional driving licence. This involved relinquishing my passport. The general election has just been announced, so I hope I'll have it back come polling day. That said, I live in the 22nd safest Labour seat, so I doubt my vote will be missed.

Blogging
9/2/'10
These little updates pre-date the term "blog", so it never really occurred to me that this was a blog until someone referred to it as such. So, it's about time I embraced the blogginess of it. Above you will now find a link to an RSS feed, which I have been meaning to add for years. To the left you will now find links to friends' blogs.

I've made it to London, safe and sound. Huge thanks to all the people who helped on Saturday and Sunday!

I am now technically a Londoner, though I do still feel like a bit of a tourist. Except for a moment today when two actual tourists asked me the way to Greenwich Park.
